I recently finished an interior design job for a wonderful couple, Mary & Tom, who were relocating to Charlotte. This project included downsizing, leaving the old behind, and making a fresh start in their new town home.
We basically started with a clean slate. The only hitch was Tom was not willing to give up his recliner. Sound familiar? So for the family room my design plan was to build a room around this recliner!
Luckily the recliner was a neutral tan so I stared off by choosing the biggest element in the room- the area rug and pulled the paint color, sofa, and side chairs from that.
We started the adjoining dining room from scratch. The table, chairs, lamps, mirror and light fixture are new.
Perhaps the most fun part of this design is the large piece of art work! Can we talk about the
elephant cow in the room? I told Mary to be thinking of a large statement piece to put on the wall that ties the dining room and family room together. She found this piece online, sent me a link to it and I thought it was perfect. The best part is, Mary says every time she walks by it, it makes her giggle!
No matter what stage of life you are in, you should have things in your home that make you happy. A successful design is not only visually pleasing but emotionally uplifting as well.
Here are some more kind words from Mary:
“When we moved from Virginia to Charlotte, our existing furniture wasn’t working in our new home. We wanted something new, fresh and clean. It was important to us that it be comfortable as well as good looking. My daughter suggested we call Sharon. Sharon listened, took our wish list and gave us exactly what we wanted. She made a plan and worked within our budget. We love our new Living Room and Dining Room areas. Working with Sharon, we accomplished our goal quicker and without RE-DO. No mistakes, 1- 2- 3 and Done!”
