A lamp shade that is… Recently I did master bedroom makeover where many of the items like the bed, dressers, drapes and lamps were kept but each got a new look. (see photos of the entire project here)
When you invest in classic, quality pieces they can last in your décor for a long time and can be updated to stay within the current design trends. Lamps in particular are a great example of this. Below is a before and after photo of one of the lamps in the master bedroom redesign. The lamp is 20 years old. It’s a great lamp, has good lines and was worth keeping. By changing just the shade from this traditional silk on the left, to a more current drum shade made of linen on the right, the lamp looks up-to-date and fits in perfectly with the new transitional design.
Here’s my #1 tip in buying a new lampshade: Bring the lamp with you! You really don’t know if a shade is right until you put it on the lamp. You can always change the size of the harp but getting the right size, and shape of the shade is crucial to achieve the right look. Buying a shade without the lamp is like buying a hat without the head!
